Росийское общество покровительства животным было основано в 1865 году.

1865 год был ознаменован великой победой. Под нажимом покровителей животных Министерство внутренних дел утвердило " Правила обращения с животными".

Ответ на запрос о Харьковском ОЗЖ - в центральную библиотеку и от них пришел ответ и список упоминаний о РОПЖ в архивах.

"На ваш запрос относительно Харьковского отдела Российского общества покровительства животным посылаем список публикаций по истории этой организации, а также другие материалы, освещающие отношение жителей Харькова к домашним и бездомным животным.
В список вошли отчеты отдела, справочные издания об Харькове и Харьковской губернии и газетные статьи, содержащие информацию о деятельности отдела, за 1887 - 1917 годы.
Общее количество библиографических заметок - 75.
Справочные издания, а также источники №№ 70-71 и 74-75 хранятся в подсобном фонде отдела "Украиника" и не требуют предварительного заказа."

Общество покровительства животным не просто существовали на бумаге, а сознательно вели борьбу с жестоким обращением над животными.
